Developing a Shopify website is a process that can vary significantly in duration, depending on the complexity and purpose of your site.

During this time we usually involve a wireframe & style guide reviews for you to approve, and 1 round of editing. So add at least an extra week for these steps and approval turnaround time.

Basic Sites

For a simple informational website the development time itself can take about a week. 

Intermediate Sites

If you’re aiming for a site with added functionalities like Conversion Optimized Product pages, FAQ’s. content that defines your Unique Value Proposition, Locations pages, reservation Apps, integrations with 3rd party platforms, etc, expect their development to spend two weeks. This includes time for selecting the best Shopify App, customizations, and thorough testing.

Complex Websites

For complex eCommerce stores or membership sites that require extensive functionality, plan for a development period of three to six weeks or even longer. This incorporates design, plugin integrations, payment setups, and security enhancements.

Factors Impacting Development Time

• Scope and Features: More features mean more time. Custom functions that aren’t readily available in Apps or themes could necessitate additional coding and design work.
• Design Customizations: Opting for a unique design, as opposed to a standard template, may lengthen the timeline to allow for design iterations.
• Revisions and Feedback: Each round of revisions based on feedback adds time. Clarity on requirements can help streamline this phase.
• Development Schedule: It’s not likely I will be available the same month you are contacting me. At times I may be up to 3 months booked out. There are peaks and valleys so reach out to find out!

Depending on our niche and what your competition is doing, I may recommend additional On Site SEO or Local SEO features. Your functional needs may also be supported by established and well regarded Shopify Apps. The Shopify Developer community is broad and talented!

• Earlier in this page I get into how Shopify stands apart. Especially if you are on GoDaddy or Wix (sorry, not sorry!). WordPress is a tough competitor but the fact of the matter is Shopify is now dominating the eCommerce shopping space in the US and with familiarity comes conversion, comes trust. The easier and more familiar the checkout experience is – the better. If your checkout experience a well as site design is antiquated or lacking in modern functionality, its same to be curious or confident that the checkout conversion is inferior to Shopify. Just the mere existence of Shop Pay in the Checkout page has been proven to increase conversion.
• Somewhat related topic, if your Checkout isn’t offering ‘payment accelerators’ such as PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay and GPay, I encourage a sense of urgency to explore it. 
• Shopify also has a world of Apps and the Shopify developer community is very engaged. There have been numerous times where I reach out to the App owner for guidance and they have offered free help. 
• There is built in Analytics to quickly understand site traffic.
• Seamless Integrations: is there a 3rd party service you use that you need to connect to? There is likely an App for that. Some are free, some are entire modules you pay for and they are worth it to keep your site operating efficiently.
• Lastly, Shopify POS Point of Sale is on the same platform as the Online channel. They interface seamlessly for reporting, inventory, cross selling related Products. 

Glad you asked, as a site without an SEO conversation risks being part of the rest of the 90% of websites that Google/Bing do not see or serve up in Search Results today.

• On-Site SEO Setup: Unless your business doesn’t need it (not likely), or your budget is very limited – most sites need core SEO settings, which I use. (H1, H2, H3 heading tags, an optimized Header and Footer menu system, SEO Page Title, Meta Description). I perform research to identify proper key words to use per page, and I leverage native Shopify SEO settings. This optimizes your site for search engines to enhance visibility and reach. The core SEO work I do is what any agency should be doing as step 1 in a SEO strategy, its a best-practice, and to-date its always worked.
• I submit the ‘Sitemap’ to Google and Bing, this kickstarts your new presence.
• Additional SEO tactics can be recommended to you – it depends on how competitive your niche is and what your competitors are doing right now that risks them reaching your customers first instead of you. 
• SEO can be a ‘long game’. With core SEO settings in place it can be at least 30 days to start to see a difference. Typically up to 90 days. SEO changes have a ‘long game’ effect. For example with a consistent SEO Optimized blog posting strategy, you can reap the rewards for 12-18 months later. It can all add up to the SEO, puzzle which is very broad.
• Depending on niche and competition, your site may need other SEO tactics that other SEO experts specifically focus on. This is known as Off Site SEO. That is NOT my expertise, as I have a lane I stay in. PR SEO, Citations, Backlinks, Blog Writers, and more. I can refer you to a couple liked agencies that have employees with these specific skillsets. Before you use Fiver or UpWork, feel free to ask me who I recommend and Im happy to send an introduction email to you two. They always offer free discovery calls.
